My work draws on fantasy and fairy tales as a means of conveying harsh realities and the acceptance felt on the other side. I am from Newfoundland, moving away at a very young age where folktales and the ocean were part of my upbringing and are a core symbol of nostalgia that became distant. I find myself repeatedly drawn to these retellings and fantasy worlds to cope with the effects of growing up.

I also draw on the symbolism of jellyfish. They represent a different type of escape and fantasy, one completely detached from human form and realities. The ocean is an inherently queer space of norm defying creatures that I find solace in; it is its own world of connection and acceptance that I yearn for. My art is a folktale of my own, with the ocean as a metaphor for my own experiences.
